If your carpet is starting to look like you're on a summer vacation at the ocean since it's ripping so much like the crashing waves against your toes in the sand, we need to talk. (I mean, I do really wish you were at the beach relaxing! But, not when it comes to rippling carpet.)
Carpet is supposed to be flat. No questions asked. If it is trying to run away on you with ripples and lines, that means that it wasn't installed tightly or correctly to begin with. (Which is a bummer and I wish they did it right the first time!)
Chad is the man you need! He has mechanical metal stretchers that he braces against the walls to stretch the carpet fully, releasing it onto the secured tack strip. (If your carpet is in the basement, the tack strip will need to be reinforced by drilling into the concrete with a concrete drill bit, then secured with additional concrete nails to really make sure it stays put when the tight carpet is speared onto the little tack strip spikes.)
When you are ready to have flat carpet again, text Chad photos of the area from multiple angles so he can get an idea of the room and where he can stretch from. When he receives the photos, he will call or text you an estimated repair price and availability.
