Unique piece with earthy tones reminiscent of his nod to Japanese and Chinese calligraphers. Probably midcentury to late 20th century.
John Freimarck (American, born 1942) is an American ceramist residing in Manquin, Virginia and known for his high-fired functional salt-glazed stoneware pottery (lidded boxes, dinnerware, decorative wares).
He embellished his glazed surfaces with brush-applied butterflies, fruit, flowers, leaves, and other images drawn from nature.
This plate measures approximately 7.25 inches in diameter. It has a well in the middle that would hold a large pillar candle.
Excellent condition- no chips or cracks. His signature is on the back.
