A terrific antique rendition of ‘The Storm’, (La Tempête) by French artist Pierre August Cot, completed in 1880 and residing at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in N.Y. (see last photo). While the large (and controversial in the US) original is of course a masterpiece, I really like what the unknown artist of this small rendition accomplished, setting the young couple in lighter, earth-toned hues with background details of country hills, trees and sunset sky. Oil on canvas; unsigned; dating roughly 1890 to 1910; reframed and possibly cleaned in modern times; excellent condition for age; just under 15” by 20” with frame, 18” by 12” canvas; $300. Bob
