MOPS KIDS Coordinator
Your interest in becoming a MOPS KIDS volunteer is greatly appreciated! MOPS KIDS volunteers are the most critical component of MOPS, because without childcare, we are unable to minister to the mothers who join us. Mothers of preschoolers will be able to relax, rejuvenate, reconnect and hear important information about parenting and faith if they know their children are well cared for in a safe and loving manner. Here are some of the most frequently asked questions:
What Does a MOPS KIDS Volunteer Do?
A MOPS Kids volunteer provides safe, loving care to the children in the MOPS Kids program. Depending on the age group, this may include overseeing or assisting with a simple lesson or activity. Volunteers follow St. Luke UMC ‘s established policies and procedures under the direction of the MOPS KIDS Coordinator.
Who Can Volunteer for MOPS KIDS?
MOPS KIDS workers can be women, men, or teenagers. They walk and talk softly and are tenderhearted when it comes to children. They get down on the floor to play blocks or sit in small chairs to color. They look children and parents in the eye. They treat children with dignity and respect and draw safe boundaries within which children flourish. They use every opportunity to let the children know that they are a beloved child of God. MOPS KIDS volunteers understand a child’s eternal worth.
What is the Time Commitment?
Volunteers are needed from 9 to noon during MOPS meetings, which are generally held on the 2nd and 4th Tuesdays of the month from September to May. Please inquire about specific dates. Ideally, the same familiar faces would greet children in the MOPS KIDS program each time but there are options to meet most schedules — once or twice a month, every third meeting, etc.
What are the Requirements for a MOPS KIDS Volunteer?
MOPS KIDS volunteers need to be dedicated to the ministry of MOPS and must agree to a background screening performed by St. Luke UMC prior to serving.
