Very RARE 1970 Living Room Set. Untouched for Decades.
This gorgeous and RARE matching set came from a 1975 house in Plymouth that was being razed (it was in the news last year). The house was like a perfectly stylish 1970s preserved time capsule when I went to see them. Especially because the owner of the house, in his 80s, had been a lighting company executive, who often traveled to Spain and Italy, to purchase lighting for the Minnesota company where he worked.
He had amazing stories. (Yes, I'll be posting some of the lights, too, soon. There is an oversized 70s lamp that we have for $500, as well. She's also a *knockout*)
The lovely man told me that this set was from Lane, but I cannot verify that. What I can confirm is that the stamps beneath each piece say 83170, which refers to their date of custom manufacture: August 31, 1970.
These fine pieces were custom made for this fancy Mr. & Mrs. who had taken over the suburbs - on their vast acreage that also had a seriously large barn! (They were both from small farm towns, and had been making a good life in the Big City)
My absolute preference is to keep this set together. They've lived together for 55 happy pristine years and they tell me they don't want to divorce.
As a set, they're priced at $1150. Separately, they're priced at $850 for the coffee table, and $550 for the octagonal side table.
We believe that they are walnut. They've never been restained. The smoky glass is divine. These pieces were the height of modern living at the time of their making. Could they be deemed mid century modern? Are they mod? They are products of the 60s and the intro to the sleeker 70s. They look like Danish refinement. They are European inspired, yet look All-American to me. Maybe it's officially Retro?
I'm sure that one of you antique dealers will have this up on First Dibs or Chairish within the week.
