Norwegian Tine bentwood storage box, with folk art Rosemally, hand-painted signed by the artist. Documented from the late 1950's, as this has been in the family the entire time.
Rosemaling is a painting tradition that originated in rural, eastern communities of Norway in the mid-1700s. Characterized by ornate curves, flowing scrollwork and floral designs, traditional styles are regionally distinctive and named for the region in Norway in which they first developed. Often by Norwegian tradition, this box was used as a bride's wedding gift, or was part of the wedding ceremony.
9" diameter x 8.5"H
Very good vintage condition, expect minor wear marks.
The tine opens by twisting the knob on one end and sliding off the handle.
