I design, build, deliver and install custom barndoors for your home, business, or cabin, including tight-spaced closets where there’s no room to store the door when it’s open; we solve that with by-pass barndoors and hardware. The hardware for by-pass doors is more expensive due to the necessity of dual tracks and extra mounting hardware and there’s a fair amount of extra labor involved in the installation, but it’s doable and very attractive. There’s also a bi-fold option to barn doors now and that option is shown in photos #7 and #8 concealing a Murphy bed.
I build mostly though not exclusively out of reclaimed lumber. New lumber is an option if that’s what you prefer. Recent doors have been built from Cherry, Maple, Walnut, White Oak, Red Oak, Ash, Grey Elm, Red Elm, Walnut, Pine, Redwood and other species. Prices can vary somewhat as Walnut and Maple, for instance, are more expensive lumbers than Oak, and though I have some Redwood it’s hard to find and correspondingly expensive. I use American-made high quality hardware; the hardware out of China is really low quality and unpredictable in its spacing, and the rails are1/16th or so thinner and that difference matters both in the weight the rail can comfortably handle and the ease of glide of the doors.
The advantage of reclaimed lumber is that most of it is old growth lumber. Harvesting practices in old growth forests allowed trees more time to grow than the rapidly-grown-to-harvested trees of today, and as a result, reclaimed lumber is harder, more dense, and therefore significantly stronger.
Everything I build is custom and according to your particular specs; we match the Barndoor to your space. I don’t use screws or nails; all joints are mortise and tenon, providing you a Barndoor that lasts for generations. We design it together, and then I build it and deliver and install. Everything, including delivery and installation, is included in the price.
I build other products as well, including pub tables, farm tables, sofa tables, end tables, wine racks, floating shelves, bars, beds, built-ins etc. and I can offer additional photos. My shop is in Farmington and I serve the entire metro area as well as out-state Mn and Wisc. You are invited and encouraged to visit my shop in Farmington anytime, and references are always available. I am a one-man, veteran-owned operation (Go Army!) and enjoy making my customers’ visions a reality.
Please reach out with any questions, and together, let’s design, build, and install your custom barndoor.
