I used this bike for commuting during grad school, so it's been through the salt and slush of winter a number of times but it has been maintained well. The components are a hodge podge of different brands and ages because I replaced them when the winter weather broke them.

There is no front derailler, because it wasn't reliable in the snow. The rear shifting uses a thumb shifter, which stays very reliable in all weather.
If you are looking for a "nice" bike, this is not it. If you are looking for a solid, reliable bike that you don't have to feel bad about beating up, this fits the bill.
