This was in a cedar chest I inherited and I know very little about animal hides but here goes:
From a deer likely shot by my father between the 1950's and 1980's.
Has printed in dots what appears to be a mirror image of the number 887.
Has 14' (14 feet?) written on it with what appears to be a permanent marker. This may bring the date later than the 50's or 60's.
I am not sure if that 14' reflects the square feet or not. It seems reasonable given the dimensions.
The entire hide weighs 1 lb 11 ounces. Those 2 figures should help you calculate the thickness of the hide.
There are stains and discolorations on the hide.
The photographs were taken while hide was spread out on a twin sized bed.
I am curious about the backwards 887. Is this applied by the Minnesota DNR or required by the finisher, taxidermist? If anyone knows please send me a message.

If there are any details I have omitted, please feel free to ask me any questions you may have.
