Alphonse Mucha Copper Foil Lithograph"Lorenzaccio". Alphonse Mucha, Czechoslovakian, 1860-1939.

Beautiful glowing Mucha copper foil Lithograph. In Lorenzaccio, a play by Alfred de Musset, Sarah Bernhardt played the male hero, Lorenzo de' Medici who at the time of the siege of Florence the tyrant Duke Alexander is symbolically treated in the poster as a snarling dragon, menacing the Medici coat of arms. Lorenzo contemplates the murder of Alexander, symbolized by the dagger piercing the tyrant, shown in the panel at the foot of the poster. Sarah Bernhardt was Mucha's "Fairy Godmother," who became famous overnight because of the revolutionary posters he designed for her, beginning with Gismonda. This one is framed in mahogany with a flora motif.

Mucha was captured by the Gestapo in 1939. He was interrogated and died the next day. The Nazis told the thousands of protesters that anyone attending his funeral would be shot. 250,000 showed up for his burial service.

Real nice condition.
