If you have some old computers / electronics that you no longer need - donating them to Free Geek will ensure that the electronics are either reused or properly recycled. We will gladly accept computers of any age - from vintage to recent. The donations can be dropped off at our location in South Minneapolis. As a 501.3c non-profit organisation we can provide with a tax deductible receipt for your donation.
Below are just some of the examples of electronics that we accept (working or not) - see below page for more info:
* Computers (we destroy all data on hard drives) / Monitors / keyboards / mice / speakers / networking devices / computer parts
* Tablets / phones / video consoles
* Any type of cables
* Audio / Video players (DVD/VCR/Tape players/walkmans/CD/MP3)
* Small household devices (blenders, microwaves)
Free Geek Twin Cities (FGTC) is a local 501.3c non-profit organisation dedicated to addressing the following issues though direct, local, community-driven action:
* eWaste management (by properly recycling electronic equipment)
* Digital divide:
Free Geek donates some of the computers it refurbishes for good causes - right now we are partnering with local non-profit organisations and couple of Minneapolis public schools to donate some of the refurbished computers
Free Geek also provides a free computer to our volunteers after they volunteered for 24 hours
If you would like to help Free Geek by volunteering, then let us know - we can certainly use more help - no experience is necessary - we teach our volunteers how to refurbish computers and how to install/work with Linux. We have an orientation every Saturday at 1 pm if you would like to join us.
