Are you ready for life's next great adventure? We are looking for a bike shop Service/Sales Manager to run the show at Spokengear Cyclery and Outdoor. Everyone is welcome and encouraged to apply. We need a highly motivated team player to help us fulfill our mission of building an all inclusive community around bikes, coffee and adventure. Mechanic skills and experience are expected as well as social media, event planning, product selection, ordering and inventory management, etc. We need the person who can take the baton and run with it! Spokengear is under the same ownership and same roof as Cedaero (Bikepacking Pack Maker), and Cedar Coffee Company (Highest rated coffee shop for miles around). Our beautiful building is located off the beaten path in a 6 acre cedar grove. We have been open for 3 ½ years and have a great start and loyal customer base. We are a Salsa Adventure Center and also carry Norco, BMC and a few smaller brands. There are many awesome gravel roads through National Forest lands and local single track trails to ride. There are even winter groomed trails for Fatbikes nearby. Our small town of Two Harbors, MN is situated on Lake Superior 20 miles northeast of Duluth and is growing, but still has a small town feel.
All of us love building, selling and working on bikes, but we all love helping people more.
Pay will be in-line with bike work here in North-Eastern Minnesota which is to say less than you could get if you were working at a bike shop in Minneapolis (or let's face it, anywhere outside the bike industry), but a heck of a lot better atmosphere and much better long term prospects than working at a regional cycling chain or a big box store somewhere. We've set this shop up to be centered around making an enjoyable place to work. Two Harbors is a great place to live and raise kids (or be kids!).
Spokengear is a very casual place by design, but here are some qualities that we will need:
We are looking for someone who is friendly and loves to connect with folks and build community. You must be willing to work some weekends. You should have retail experience selling bikes. You must be comfortable working in a fast-paced shop and and be able to multi-task with customers. We are looking for someone who is comfortable working for a small, growing business. We need someone who sees opportunities to improve the shop process and contribute to improving the process and learning as we go. Sometimes the fast-paced shop can be slow, but you must find it rewarding to take the slow time to be proactive and find the next thing to do that can improve our shop: restocking, communicating with suppliers, planning the next shop ride or overnighter, or sweeping the floor, and dusting the shelves. You must be able to learn quickly and work without supervision. You must be honest, reliable and trustworthy. We are looking for someone who can meet our customers where they are at, whether a toddler being excited about stepping over a bike to the ultra endurance athlete looking to have her wheels upgraded to carbon.
We have a really great team here, and we are looking to expand on that. If you think you would like to join us in Two Harbors, MN:
1. Send a cover letter/email - be sure to outline your previous experiences getting paid to work on bikes, your strengths and weaknesses as a mechanic, the types of riding you really get excited about etc. Best to use the above email address listed on our website rather than using CL's reply function. dan at spokengear dot com
2. Attach a list of 3 references with contact details.
3. Attach a resume that shows and highlights your previous professional bike shop experiences.
