The RE200 is a compact FET condenser mic with an EQ curve described as a “Continuous Presence Rise.”
The response begins rolling off at 300Hz, remains relatively flat through 3kHz, and exhibits two sharp peaks (+10–12dB) at 5kHz and 8kHz. The HF response falls sharply above about 13kHz.
The attenuated LF response allows the microphone to be positioned close to a sound source without fear of overwhelming LF buildup due to proximity effect. EV presents the mic as a suitable choice for drum overheads, high-hat, acoustic guitar, and strings.
The mic has a true condenser capsule, not an electret as would be more usual in a mic that can be powered by 12V.
