This Jensen-equipped Bell & Howell Filmosound speaker has a stamp that reads "FUNGUS TREATMENT APPLIED APR 1945". My best guess is it was used to play movies for U.S. troops in the humid South Pacific, hence the extra treatment. Well it worked, and the original cone is still in perfect condition (check out the closeup pics; it looks like new!). 16 ohms, conservatively rated for 25 watts. The speaker doesn't sound tired like some older Jensens; it has plenty of presence and solid low end. Really barks when you hit it hard, lots of distortion harmonics and twang when desired, but also does that vintage smokey jazz thing extremely well. This would also KILL for blowing harp!
This predates 6-digit manufacturers' date codes, so it's fortunate that the extra stamp was applied. The speaker may even have left the Jensen factory in 1944 before shipping to B&H, then to the military for treatment. Rim code and B&H part number are visible in the pics. 25-watt Alnico indicates model P12N, as used in Fender tweed amps.
The cabinet is also in stellar condition, and can be used open or closed back. Grill is in beautiful shape thanks to the protective cover (pic 9). Vintage Jensen power ratings were VERY conservative; I've pushed a 1964 VOX AC30 head through it with no problems, and even used it with a 50-watt JMP in rehearsals (not cranked, but keeping up with a loud drummer).
Though I'd prefer to keep this museum piece intact, if you just want the cab or speaker, make an offer. I've used the cab as a speaker testing platform, and it sounded great with modern (and less vintage) speakers too. There's storage space and a removable shelf inside the cab, all coated in velvet, which not only looks great but provides internal sound damping.
