Vocal mechanics coaching and Singing Lessons for voices of all ages and all stages of your musical journey! I ONLY coach online, No in-person lessons, I think online is actually more intimate, actual, and factual, making my job more accurate and your experience more relaxed in the comfort of your own home, plus the advantage of a close-up view of your own reflection in the Zoom screen as we manipulate the features of the face, throat, and neck responding to the information and techniques presented. I think things start out best with an introductory phone call. I recommend 30 minute online Zoom sessions once a week for singing lessons which are $40 each, and if you book and pay monthly it's $120 ($30 weekly, or every other week). Some people insist they want more warm ups and performance building work-outs in a 45 minute session which is $60. The only reason to do a full one hour session is if you have an upcoming audition or performance with multiple songs to prepare, I wouldn't move you along any faster learning skills, which is $80. Working with 2 people at once as duets is $110 an hour. 3-5 people in the group is $150 an hour. Group presentations to choir or theater casts is $200 an hour. Guest conducting with multiple rehearsals - price is negotiable. Booking monthly is a $10 discount off each session. I'd love to hear all about your inspirations, aspirations, goals, and ,expectations, answer any questions you may have, and hopefully get you scheduled. The more detailed you can be with me about where you're trying to get to and why the better I can try building a yellow brick road to help you get there. I trained in Bel Canto 30+ years ago and recently in The Cole Vocal Method, as well as my life-long commitment to being a master of perfecting my craft. I have studied many other music forms including Arabic, Hindustani, Sephardim, Oriental, and other cultures, as well as speech therapy techniques for the deaf to produce and manipulate sound. I also teach many other stand alone techniques including but not limited to vibrato, non vibrato, raising the epiglottis and soft palate, distortion, fry, scream fry, death scream (use of the ventricular cords), and mimicry. I offer tangible results and instant gratification. I did my original college internship at Paisley Park working with pros heading into the recording studio and looking to take their live performance to the next level. In the late 90's I gave "Artist In Industry" seminars and worked with students at Music Tech (the Rock and Roll College) in Minneapolis and in the early '00s continued my seminars and working with students at McNally Smith College of Music in Saint Paul. From 2008-2017 I was Children's Choir Director at Robbinsdale United Church of Christ with one choir of 3 year olds to 1st graders and one choir of 2nd to 5th graders. I started giving private lessons with amateur musicians from home in 2015 and in 2020 discovered I could do it online, usually using the Zoom app, but I'm willing to try a different platform if you prefer. Most of my clients the past 30 years have been college students and professionals looking to take their sound to the next level, but the past 2 years nearly half my clientele have been ages 14 and under. I have real world experience and have helped clients meet their goals in nearly every genre imaginable including but not limited to Country, Rock and Pop of the '50s, '60s,'70s, 80's, 90's, up to current, K-Pop(Korean), Bollywood, Hip Hop, Rap, Eclectic Electronica, Blues, R and B, Bluegrass, Hard Core, Heavy Metal, Punk, Ska, Alternative, Indie, Folk music of many cultures including Irish, European, Roma, Sephardim Jew, Lebanese, Spanish, Hindustani, Arabic, and Classical in many languages including Latin, Italian, German, and beyond. The summer of 2003 a local Minneapolis magazine reviewed my original music project at the time calling me "The Midwest's Reigning Queen of Hardcore Music". Sessions begin with physical exercises and stretches to prepare the body for singing, then vocal warm ups to strengthen and lengthen the vocal cords, making them stronger and increasing your range, using scales and arpeggios moving up and down chromatically helping you smooth your transitions - passagios thru the 5 stages of voice: chest voice, head voice, belting range/mixed voice, falsetto, and whistle tones. You'd probably never use your whistle tones in front of anyone else but it's very healthy to stretch your vocal cords up there, and of course whenever you stretch anything one direction the other end stretches too, and all of these exercises double as ear interval training. We always do things to improve our breathing techniques also, and can include some solfege if you wish. In the second half of the session I introduce new ideas, techniques, and visualizations using songs of your choice. The more familiar the student is with the songs the better my methods work. I believe as long as the PITCH is accurate there are dozens of different ways to sing the same thing. I call these skills "tools for your toolbox" and I try to introduce one or 2 new tools in each session along with the understanding of when and how using each one is most appropriate, because by the time you are ready to sing in front of other people YOU ARE THE ARTIST!
