POSITION SUMMARY:
The Fleet/Yard Assistant supports the daily operations of the shop by assisting with equipment and vehicle maintenance, repairs, and organization. This role works under the Shop Manager and plays a key part in keeping the fleet safe, functional, and ready for seasonal operations.
The Fleet/Yard Assistant assists with routine maintenance tasks, shop organization, equipment preparation, parts handling, and documentation of repairs. This position helps reduce downtime, supports safety and compliance standards, and contributes to efficient shop operations by following established maintenance procedures and supporting continuous improvement efforts.PRIMARY RESPONSABILITIES:
Maintain yard control and organization, ensuring equipment and materials are properly staged, stored, and secured.
Assist with ordering materials and parts as needed in coordination with department managers.
Utilize company software systems (LMN, Fleet Maintenance software, etc.) to document repairs, maintenance, and inventory updates.
Conduct quarterly equipment inventory and update tracking systems accordingly.
Maintain accurate yard and small equipment inventory; report inventory status to upper management.
Assist in diagnosing equipment issues and performing timely repairs under supervision.
Support maintenance of the snow removal fleet and seasonal equipment.
Assist in scheduling and performing repairs and preventative maintenance on tools, equipment, and vehicles.
Perform routine preventative maintenance tasks such as fueling, greasing, cleaning, inspections, and basic adjustments.
Perform other duties as assigned to support the shop and operational needs.
QUALIFICATIONS:
High school diploma or GED, or equivalent work experience.
Experience assisting with mechanical repairs, maintenance, or shop work.
Ability to follow written and verbal instructions accurately.
Basic math skills for measurements, parts counts, and inventory assistance.
Valid driver’s license
Basic computer skills and willingness to learn
Bilingual (Spanish) preferred
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
Ability to stand and walk for extended periods during the workday.
Ability to bend, stoop, kneel, crouch, and crawl to perform maintenance and repair tasks.
Ability to lift, carry, push, and pull up to 80 pounds.
Ability to work in a shop environment with exposure to noise, dust, fumes, grease, oils, and varying temperatures
Compensation: $25.00 - $30.00
