Weekend caregiver needed for an adorable, verbal 11-year old boy with mild autism.

I need a reliable part time PCA/nanny on the weekends, for a total of up to 16 hours a week. My 11-year-old son has high functioning autism. He is intelligent, verbal and a lot of fun to be around!

Preferred Schedule:
Sat-Sun 10am-6 p.m. (this schedule is flexible but should be consistent each week and the job does not necessarily require the full 8 hours every day you work). The hours can be flexible at times but time off should be planned in advance.

The ideal candidate must be high-energy, physically fit, and be able to actively participate in sports activities (especially swimming indoor and outdoor).

Candidate needs to pass a basic test, take some brief training, and will be employed through a local company paid with a W-2. I would also prefer that you are CPR/first aid certified or would be willing to get certified within a few weeks of the start date. Looking for someone that is reliable and would be able to work at least through the end of the summer 2019. Must pass a pre-employment background check.

Qualifications desired for special needs caregivers (in general):

• Good verbal communication – Special needs caregivers talk with their patients throughout the course of their working hours and offer detailed reports to family members and employers regarding patient progress and state of well-being. These professionals have strong written and verbal communication skills.
• Patience – Caring for patients requires special needs caregivers to remain patient at all times, and the job may require caregivers to perform tasks repeatedly until they are completed to satisfaction.
• Compassion – Special needs caregivers must maintain a compassionate and kind demeanor, even when patients are irritable, demanding, angry, or otherwise suffering from extreme emotional states
• Time Management – It’s important for special needs caregivers to keep patients on regular bathing, feeding, and medication schedules, which requires good time management and organization
• Physical Ability – Special needs caregivers must be able to lift and carry patients when necessary, household items, groceries, and laundry. They also have the ability to care for patients by bending, squatting, stooping, and standing for hours at a time, which requires good physical strength and energy
