The Sunrisers Toastmasters will offer "Speechcraft," a four-week course in public speaking 8-10 a.m., January 28 -- February 18, at The Heathers, 3000 Douglas Dr. N., Crystal.
Speechcraft is a workshop designed to teach communication and leadership skills to groups of 5-10 participants. A team of experienced Toastmasters conducts the program using materials supplied by Toastmasters International. For a fee of $40, each participant will get printed materials, an experienced Toastmaster mentor, and an opportunity to develop leadership and speaking skills in a supportive environment. Participants may extend their course to eight weeks for an additional $20. The fee can be applied to a 6 month membership in Toastmasters. Participants will learn to give short speeches, introduce other speakers and serve as speech evaluators in a small group setting.
Toastmasters regular meetings consist of activities such as "table topics," in which participants have the chance to speak off-the-cuff on a designated theme for two minutes, in addition to opportunities to make and evaluate longer presentations. Toastmasters also work on their communication skills by taking on various roles during meetings, such as emcee, evaluator and timekeeper.
The "Sunrisers" chapter is based in Crystal and is part of a larger organization called Toastmasters International, which boasts hundreds of thousands of members spread across dozens of countries. The Sunrisers meet 8 -- 10 a.m. Saturday mornings at The Heathers.
