Alberto Vargas is the best known and respected of all pin-up artists. The "Varga Girl" became a wartime icon, helping to boost the morale of soldiers far from home.
This painting, "November 1944" was part of a special limited edition produced by the San Francisco Art Exchange in 1990. It is an eleven-color continuous-tone lithographic print, one of only 450 produced on Arches paper. The edition was printed by Black Box Collotype of Chicago, one of the premier fine art printing houses in the world. It was published after the artist's death and therefore an estate edition. The trademarked "Varga" signature has been silk screened on the bottom right corner along with the image number: 135/450. To protect the value of the piece, no further copies will be issued. Sale includes certificate of authenticity.
The print measures 33 inches high by 23 3/4 inches wide and is finished by an elegant double-matte gilded frame. Total overall size: 30" x 39".
This is a rare opportunity to own a beautiful piece of art. The entire run of "November 1944" prints were completely sold out during the initial offering and will not be reprinted. Market value is conservatively estimated at $4000 and expected to appreciate.
