I believe this handmade boat is based on a Selway‑Fisher Whitehall 15' plan, a classic round‑bilged pulling boat. Length is 15’ 2”, beam 4’ 7”, with six beautifully fitted planks per side. This skiff combines classic Adirondack and St. Lawrence River design influences. Known for its glide, balance, and timeless lines, it is regarded as one of the finest traditional rowing hulls ever designed. It is known to be fast, stable, and smooth to row. It also has a transom for attaching a motor.
History: I bought it from my brother's estate in 2017. Due to a series of orthopedic surgeries (6) and one bilateral hernia since August 2017, I have not been able to enjoy using it and am finally throwing in the towel in an attempt to act my age (63).
Condition: The hull of the boat leaks and needs some restoration. After speaking with Phil at Sheer-Craft in St. Paul, it would be too costly to have a professional boat restoration service to do the restoration given that the overall approximate value of the boat and trailer might be $5,000 to $6,000 in very good condition.
Phil suggested that the leaks may be resolved through the use of 3M's 5200 silicone. According to Phil, several renowned boat builders, Walt Simmons and Harry Bryan, have raved about the use of 5200 for new lapstrake and leaky lapstrake boats in Wooden Boat magazine. To bring this boat up to the very good condition category, it should also be repainted. I can put you in touch with him for additional insight.
The boat is solidly built, with a clean interior, solid planking, and a transom for a motor.
Includes the trailer (excellent condition) and a pair of lightly used oars. Estimated value if sold separately: $1,200 to $1,500.
Located in Minnetonka, Minnesota. Will deliver at no additional charge for first 150 miles (one-way) and at $.50 per mile thereafter.
