This beautiful wood handcrafted flat bottom boat was gifted to our family by my uncle, who was a highly skilled woodworker and avid fisherman. This boat was the 18th flat bottom boat he made. It has been a registered watercraft in the state of Minnesota since 2015. We acquired it in 2017.
It has been used primarily on lakes around the Twin Cities, but has also been tested on large, northern Minnesota lakes in all kinds of conditions. Whether navigating in crowded Bde Maka Ska in Minneapolis or crossing Cresent Lake in the Superior National Forest in white caps and wind gusts, this boat handles like a dream.
I’ve used a 55 lb thrust electric motor (not included). Despite the nearly 16’ length, it can turn on a dime. I’ve rowed this boat in heavy winds and have always maintained a precision course with easy stability.

The boat was stored in a garage when not in use up until the last three years, where it’s been stored outside, covered. There is some bottom surface wear under the boat after 8 years of use. It is good to go into the water right now, but would recommend some light sanding and a new coat of marine paint at some time soon. The wood sheer trim could also benefit from la ight sanding and or degreaser along with a polyurethane coat to protect it to ensure many years of future use.
There was many hours put in to building this one-of-a-kind custom built boat. I hope to see it go to someone that will enjoy it and take care of it. Because of health reasons, I can no longer maintain and use “Neville Flatbottom” as we called it.
