50cm Zunow Di Picce, full Japanese build, *RARE, HANDMADE STEEL* - $1400 (NE MPLS)

1234567891011121314151617

bicycle frame material: steel
bicycle type: road
condition: excellent
frame size: 50cm
make / manufacturer: Zunow
model name / number: Di Picce
wheel size: 700C

Unrestored, original paint. Good condition, with normal wear signs of a 30ish year old frame that was likely raced on (most of these Pink Smoke frames in the US seem to have been sold to teams from what I have gathered, but I am not certain– information is scarce due to rarity. I purchased it from someone who allegedly did race on it in the 90s). The Di Picce was Zunow's second highest end frameset, superseded only by the Z1.

Handmade in Japan with Zunow-specified Tange tubing called "Ditchex". Lots of shaping to the tubing and very unique, with a beautiful wishbone seatstay and gorgeously filed lugs on almost every junction. Asymmetric stays, pantographing pretty much everywhere they could fit it, and a recess for the full-length rear brake cable along the top tube. The fork is chromed below the paint. Columbus dropouts.

The build is as Japanese and class/"period" as possible to honor the beautiful craftsmanship of the frame. Complete Shimano 600 Tricolor 8 speed STI drivetrain that's smooth as butter, Tange G-Master headset, new (at time of build): Nitto Dynamic seatpost, Nitto Dynamic 100 stem, Nitto M106 compact drops. Wheels are C-4 hubs (mUSA, similar in quality to Phil/CK), Sapim CX-Ray to H+SON TB-14 eyeletted rims in Gunmetal finish. 3x rear, 2x front, both 28H. Butyl tubes underneath 700x25 Conti GP-4000 SIIs with probably less than 300 miles and no punctures/flats in their lifespan.

Lovely details are abound in this super-unique frameset, but honestly my favorite feature is the chain holder on the driveside seatstay. Check out the last pic.

This bike rides like a dream and according to a Zunow aficionado (who was just a touch too tall to take it off my hands), is "the nicest he's seen in the states." I cannot verify that claim, but it was nice to hear. I'm a former mechanic and the bike is dialed and good to go. Shifts flawlessly, stops quickly, wheels run true, blah blah whole nine yards.
