condition: excellent
make / manufacturer: Folk Art
size / dimensions: 77' X 12" X 7'
My homage to "Oumuamua"--77" long by 12" wide by 7" high. Wood, epoxy, paint and steel.
The sculpture is a piece of driftwood from the Mississippi found near Pig's Eye.
Approximately 20 coats of paint and epoxy.
Black with a brick red rub through to match the astronomers' descriptions of the extraterrestrial space probe.
The base is steel and the pedestal is black cherry with a maple saddle.
The saddle is contoured so "Oumuamua" sits freely nestled into the saddle.
You have to see this one in person to appreciate it.
From Wikipedia:
The name comes from Hawaiian ʻoumuamua 'scout'[40] (from ʻou 'reach out for', and mua, reduplicated for emphasis 'first, in advance of'[4]), and reflects the way the object is like a scout or messenger sent from the distant past to reach out to humanity. It roughly translates to 'first distant messenger'.
ʻOumuamua is the first interstellar object detected passing through the Solar System.[23] Formally designated 1I/2017 U1, it was discovered by Robert Weryk using the Pan-STARRS telescope at Haleakalā Observatory, Hawaii, on 19 October 2017, approximately 40 days after it passed its closest point to the Sun on 9 September.
A number of astronomers have suggested that it could be a product of extraterrestrial technology;[35] however, there is insufficient evidence to support any hypotheses, "despite all [its] strangeness".
