I bought several of these units at a neighborhood yard sale thinking they might run a newer WINDOWS OS. (These units were originally licensed for WINDOWS 8.) After a failed attempt to install WINDOWS I loaded them up with LINUX MINT 22.1. I've installed several helpful programs for managing and playing your music and video files including VLC, SPOTIFY, ASUNDER and Sound Converter.
I also installed LIBRE OFFICE (Microsoft OFFICE clone) and the proper NVIDIA video drivers for the laptop. You could use this laptop as a media server, CD ripper, or as a portable movie player for long road trips.
To freshen this unit up I removed the heat sinks and the old, dried thermal paste. I then applied fresh thermal paste before reassembly.
This laptop has the extended life 9 cell Lithium Ion battery - with a 100 Watt hour rating. You can see it sticking out of the rear of the laptop. I have not performed extensive testing of the batteries, but they appear to have a decent life left. (see photos)
Cosmetically this laptop is in good working condition. No cracks or obvious damage to the plastics. The person I bought them from said they came from an office IT upgrade a few years back. They don't appear to have been abused or used outside of the office much.
