Hello, music freaks.
I am a 60 year old serious, fun, professional, “schooled”, and wide-open-minded guitarist/bassist/multi-instrumentalist. I have done many studio sessions on bass, keys, percussion, and of course guitar. As a performer, I will always rather play guitar. I love to write music and lyrics, as well as work with great music written by others (Good is Good!). I have scored strings and horns, had some ambient music in a few indie films, have sessioned with some outrageously diverse artists, and know that sometimes space is the perfect note. I have had the pleasure of working in music on many levels and capacities for my entire adult life. I have finally arrived at a point in life that I can make music purely for the joy of making music.
I would like to start a trio and focus on any music that inspires us to play more. I have been deeply involved with: “World”, Reggae, many styles from Africa, rock, punk/thrash/hard core, jam/improv, jazz, math rock, prog….I love sound!
My background…..I have a 4 year BA degree in music performance, orchestration/arranging, jazz and classical, deep theory. I have played seriously since 1988, but already dedicated by 1980 while in high school. I am equally comfortable and inspired with so much music! Let’s explore what 3 people can do.
My ideal is guitar, bass, and drums (for now). I am not so full of myself that I think that I am better than any other guitarist, but I so much want to play with the right people and see what we can do with this arrangement. I would definitely consider a sensitive and open-minded keys player (or an “auxiliary” player on guitar, keys, and/or percussion). But for starters, I want a few musicians who love playing, are confident in what they do, and are ready to have an open mind and just play.
I am open to covers, but have zero interest in any song just for the sake of it being supposedly crowd pleasing. I learned in my years touring in Reggae bands the difference between doing “covers” and doing “versions”. Versions are songs someone else may have written, but we play it how we hear it as its best. So let’s do cool versions of anything that we decide to make sound like us.
I know that the labels attached to various music genres are amorphous, but we all know what "classic rock" means to many musicians. That is the one thing that I have zero interest in doing unless it's a wacked out version.
Respond with what you play and what you want to do with this project. Maybe include something that you won't do in a new project. Let’s explore music and make something amazing with it.
