The Custom Scarf Joint Beam Mantles are connected with hand cut scarf joints, reminiscent of the custom joinery used centuries ago. The scarf joint was used to extend the length of beams to reach fully across the span of a barn as a significant reinforcement. The scarf joint beam mantles are assembled using very tight tolerances and custom post frame type joinery.
The scarf joints that are currently used are the "splayed scarf using under-squinted butts with a transverse wedge-key" we are also considering doing scarf joints that are "Edge halved stop-splayed with verticle bridled butts" in other words also keyed on the top and bottom.
Get ready to be transported into another era, and this old growth wood carries much character and natural patina.
Our Barn Beam Mantles will enhance the look of any fireplace.
You can install your Barn Beam Mantle with a French Cleat that can be purchased at most home improvement stores or we can supply your Cleat.
The Barn Beam Mantles can be made in various lengths in 4x6, 6x6, 6x8, and 8x8, in pine or oak call or email for pricing or design questions. (prices vary by dimension and length).
Our Mantles can also be ordered with optional Corbels, the Corbels are priced at $65.00 each.

We can also build beams from sawmill lumber of your choice.
