The wood cabinets are in good condition, albeit with a moderate amount of scratches, scuff marks, and discoloration. I don't see any damage that would impede refinishing them.
The woofers obviously need to be replaced. All of the other speakers appear to be fine (although one of the tweeters has a line on one side of the bubble -- I'm not sure if it is a crack or just a crease, and I don't dare manipulate it enough to clarify what it is).
The top knob on one of the speakers does not turn as freely as all of the other knobs -- not sure why (maybe a bent shaft)? (Additional note: during my listening test, I fiddled with both knobs on both speakers, and while all of them appeared to make changes to the sound, none of them seemed to work consistently/correctly).
The foam grilles are missing (from what I found online, there are probably only a handful of people on the planet who have the original grilles for these speakers!).
These speakers need a restoration that I certainly cannot do myself, and am reluctant to pay someone else to do (as I have another pair of speakers I would rather spend the money on). That being said, after listening to how they sound as is, it is going to be hard for me to let them go (honestly, if I thought there was any chance of me getting my hands on a marantz receiver from this era (1976-1978), I wouldn't even consider selling them!). Accordingly, I am not going to sell them for a pittance and then regret it for the rest of my days. If they sell, great, and if they do not, then it's off to storage until I can restore them myself.
I am asking $100 for the pair (cash only), but I will entertain any reasonable offer.
Available for pickup in Belle Plaine, but twice weekly I drive to Brooklyn Park and back, so on those days I could meet somewhere close to 169 anywhere between Belle Plaine and Brooklyn Park.
If you have additional questions, please feel free to ask.
