Scarce and superb antique two-wheel coffee grinder (No. 7) manufactured by the National Specialty Manufacturing Co., Philadelphia, 19th century, cast iron with wooden handle, in original red, dark green, and gold paint with polychrome transfers, the inside of each wheel with ornate hand-painted scrolling in ocher, the hopper with arched and nipple-topped swiveling lid, tin-lined drawer, manufacturer’s embossed mark on the base and each wheel, the overall dimensions approx. 23” tall by 16-1/2” wide (including handle) by 16-3/8” deep (also the diameter of the wheels). Scattered surface wear commensurate with age (the paint remaining 90% intact); a bit of light superficial oxidation (mainly to hopper lid); otherwise fine, attractive, working condition, fully intact with no breaks or losses, and retaining a rich, deep, beautifully undisturbed patina. A handsome example of a particularly elusive model and size. The crowning touch for your vintage kitchen, dining room, coffee shop, or general store collection.
