CUMMINS L series 10.0 liter ISM 280 Turbo Diesel engine. This is an inline 4 stroke, 6 cylinder diesel pusher, rated at 280 HP and 900 lb ft of torque. The power can be increased up to around 450 hp on this model of engine if you desire more power. The engine & transmission are located in the rear of the bus, so it’s pretty quiet going down the road.
VOITH push-button 4 speed automatic transmission. The Voith transmission is equipped with an internal retarder, which slows the bus down when decelerating, so the actual brakes need to be used much less. This retarder this transmission is equipped with gives it a big advantage over the similar transmissions (like Allison) that do not have a retarder. A rebuilt transmission was installed on this bus on 5/21/2011. The mileage on the bus was 344,897. So that was 99,xxx miles ago.
Air brakes, Air ride suspension, & Air ride RECARO drivers seat. All in excellent condition.
Air Conditioned – With electronic climate control. Works great.
Tires are all Michelin and they all have between 8/32" and 14/32" of tread depth.
Front programmable destination sign equipped.
2 Air operated entrance doors
About 5 years ago I was told that when new, the 35' version of these buses cost $395,000 each. I'm sure that has went up quite a bit in the last 5 tears. This is a very expensive, very heavy duty bus that is built to last. Over 5 times as expensive as a school bus. They are rated for a million miles, so this one has low miles with only 444k miles.
Nice, heavily padded dark blue seating. Interior is in very good condition. No tears or damage on any of the seats. Some face forward, & some face sideways and go around the perimeter. These are easily removed if you plan to convert it to a motor home or something else. It currently has 43 seats. Some seats will fold up for when/if you need to use the wheelchair positions (some are pictured folded up).
Wheelchair lift equipped. It has been tested and it is working perfect.
All glass in good condition, (no cracks)
Has 2 (2’x2’) roof mounted ventilation openings that are also emergency exits
White exterior. Paint is in pretty good condition.
Nice straight body, (no major dents, dings, or scratches).
Some other specs on this bus are: Mfg date: 5-15-2002. GVWR 39,600. Vehicle I.D. 15GCD211821111227. Engine # 35057455. Interior height: 6’7”. Capacity 43 sitting, 17 standing. Lifetime miles: 444,000. This is the actual, documented mileage of this bus, & is considered low mileage for a bus of this caliber that is built to go a million miles. Outside dimensions are approximately 40’ long, 102” wide, 9’ 4” tall. Inside dimensions are approximately 36 ½’ long, 8' wide, & 6’ 7” ceiling height.
These buses were required to be in top shape at all times, & were meticulously maintained in a state of the art facility. Nothing was spared when maintaining these buses. This one runs great, and has lots of power with the turbocharged diesel engine. The Ultra-Reliable Voith Automatic transmission shifts perfectly. This engine does not smoke, & runs perfect. The oil pan is nice and clean. This is not an oil leaker! It holds speed great on the hills, thanks to the turbocharged Cummins Diesel engine. Starts easily. 64 MPH top speed, but this can be adjusted up or down by most any shop that works on Cummins diesel engines. Handles nicely on the highway. Rear end is a 4.56 gear ratio. Bus was just retired after the 2019 Minnesota State Fair. So it has not been sitting idle. In fact I just drove it 70 miles on 10-7-2019 and it ran and drove beautifully!
If you register it as a motor home, NO COMMERCIAL DRIVERS LICENCE IS NECESSARY TO DRIVE IT! All you need is a standard drivers license. Has minor signs of wear and tear, but it’s in above average condition for its age. Nice looking coach inside and out. Feel free to come take a look. It is very easy to drive. Even my mom could drive it.
