Got this for my d850, but camera was stolen so I have no use for this GPS. Won't work on new camera. Worked great when I tried it out. So, this is new open box. That is why the price is $40 less than Amz etc. This puts the gps coordinates into the photo metadata and allows you to even map a group of photos. Very handy device .Try before buying if you like. I would gladly trade it for the other kind - The ones that plug into side of camera. If your Nikon has the port circled in orange it should work. Works for sure on these cameras, may work on others: Z8 D850 D6 D5 D4 D3 D810 D800 D700.
