This Master Bench 4/4 violin (#51) was handcrafted and finished in April 2013 by master violin maker Thomas Carlson of Chaska, Minnesota.
The top plate is made from well-seasoned European spruce, paired with a beautifully figured back plate of seasoned European maple. The instrument was carefully graduated and voiced to emphasize resonance, clarity, projection, and tonal balance.
The violin is fitted with ebony fingerboard, pegs and chin rest. The strings are Pirastro Tonica with a Pirastro Gold E string. The tail piece is a Wittner composite with fine tuners.
This violin was entered in the Violin Makers Association of Arizona International (VMAAI) competition in 2013, where it placed in the top ten for tone among approximately 80 entries—a notable result in a highly competitive international field.
Thomas Carlson has earned multiple gold and silver medals for tone at VMAAI over the past two decades and is widely respected for producing instruments with responsive playability and refined, mature sound.
