Here is trim that I did last 3 months "vimeo.com/1098628387". I look for some home builder to be trimming sub for him beside customers. I can do complicated framing too. If you are GC and interest work with me in future let me know. Worked around year 2000 for 3 companies that framed and trimmed high end homes. Work righ now like sub for 3 GC and if you need references I will give to you phone nr. Crown at cathedral ceiling, complicated handrailing, Irregular hips roof framing, cathedral ceiling with irregular walleys, everyting I do. If not good you do not pay me and I pay for lumber that I spent. Carpentry part of remodeling, basement frame and trim, kitchen installation and help design, addition. References for each photos eligible. For some you can call the customers, for others I will say when and where it is done. That photo with AD in corner is my work. I calculated and cut, and built that arch in 2002 for Choice wood company at project in Edina. If you do not believe that in pictures is my work, and it turns out some companies do not believe, try to google those pictures. You will find them only at contractortalk. com under my name there "tipitop".
Email Zell or text or call 612-423-4743.
Price: *** 50-80$/hour. Depending on what I do (paint base to complicated roof framing) and size of project.
Other workers cannot rely on my tools, can use them occasionally.
You want me to do only technically difficult parts of the project? Excellent, just pay well. I love it.
Very important. Download my pictures of trim work to your computer and enlarge it. Then download pictures of other carpenters and general contractors and such and enlarge them on your computer. I would advise to copy phone nr of anyone who advertise carpentry and remodeling here and check for references and photos what people from CL did for customers. There is a lot people here do not have idea what they are doing, not even close. I work for a few landlords and GC that hire other people from CL to help me and they are shocked how low quality of work that peoples do. I strongly encourage you to bring other carpenters beside me, especially those from companies that have "Star tribune" awards for quality of work. That awards are paid for. Then compare the quality of work. Every year I bump into a few of them on projects. If you are in doubt about whether something is right, I will come for free and give you my opinion. And you will do your best to call me when framing is going on. Hey "awarded" company do showers remodeling where corner of walls is of the level then tiles are not parallel with wall and customer wonder how they get so many awards. The entire trick is to do picture from farther away and when you look at it you cannot see real quality because picture at CL is too small. Again always welcome hire me and another carepenter/company and especially company with local awards and compare quality of work in framing and trim.
Can see my YouTube video about floor leveling with furring strips if you write in search box at YouTube "zell leveling of floor with furring strips". Furring strips are huge because it allow me to level everything. Entire companies do not have a single person who can cut 2Xs with free hands to level floors.
Open to work for other companies in framing and/or trim. Can do for example only frame of stairs or roofs. I worked back then for 3 companies that build high end homes doing framing and trim. Currently I work for one developer, one designer builder and one house flipper for more than 10 years each. Work for two trim companies like sub at more difficult parts of projects, crown, double doors... . I say all the time, you have other carpenters on the project? Excellent, call me to and compare my handy work to theirs. Photo nr 3 crowns at cathedral ceiling, photo nr 6 fixing trusses with furring strips, photo nr 24 double gooseneck railing. Now google "double gooseneck railing" and first photo is this from nr 24. If you are pro I guess nothing more to be seen. Irregular hip roof framing, cathedral ceiling framing, crown at cathedral ceiling, all sort of roofs, stairs and handrailing, I do it all, no good you do not pay anything. Throw at me more basic work, for one month or so, like base, case, single door etc. and I can do those extreme stuff for entry price too. I worked for a few relatively new companies recently as a sub and get called "life saver" and "game changer" for my expertise.
First where did this hiring come from HA and AL come? They have some references proved by HA and AL from some IT nerd that saw a construction site for the first time in his life? How about my references that I can give you and no one asks for some reason? One is the owner of a dose of duplexes and two buildings that I have worked on for 11 years. He is over 2 decades in the business of fixing up houses and I'm his only carpenter. Another is a designer/builder that is almost 3 decades in business. I do for him all framing and most of the heavy-duty trims for 5 years. 3. one is over 2 decades in business fixing up houses and I work for him 18 years. I got called recently to a project where someone else did framing, installing all doors and windows and kitchen. I was asked to trim that house (base, casing) where my price would be 5$/hour or so. The floor leveling at that house is not done at all and walking there you get dizziness like you are on a boat in stormy weather. Doors are installed with "Quick door hangers" where because the walls are off level, all doors close on their own. Please use common sense. Or call me to fix the crown in the kitchen. Guy installed kitchen for 3 times of money I would do it but did crappy job and they ask me if I can fix it for small money because they spent a lot already. Just ask anyone from CL, SA, AL photos and look at photos with your own eyes. Virtually man allow his 80$/hour carpenter to do crooked floor in front of his eyes and look in my portfolio and think "I will call this guy after expert is done". If something is crocked it is crocked. No matter how many architects, builders, and awards (awards are paid for) company have. A worked for 2 dozen of them in framing and trim, I know how much they can do. I did work and work currently for a few dozen companies like sub. I work for virtually all biggest home builders in twin city I work for from time to time. Right here at CL look where people advertise that they do handrailing and you can see in photo that between last baluster and post or wall is smaller space than between rest of balusters. And people put it for advertising. Or stairs where you can see in photo gap between tread and skirtboard.
I level floors with uneven strips. It is a rare skill that requires great mental concentration and body coordination. It is extremely difficult for an average person to cut uneven strips with their free hand entire day. You will hire a company that will recommend you run new joists in ceiling, and you will pay (a lot) for it where I simply run strips at top of old joists in a few days. You can put strips at top of joist, you cannot sister new joist to old unless new sit at bearing walls to - it is Minnesota law. It happens all the time when someone pays tons of money to high end firm where same firm didn't even bother to level his old deck with strips and I come next door and level everything. You can pay, and most do, tons of money to them but they will not have guy capable to do leveling with strips. I was called many times to explain to homeowners why their newly remodeled floors, decks, cathedral ceilings, roofs are uneven. The explanation is simple, they do not have good carpenters and it is almost impossible to find them. Right there in photo 21 is straightening of cathedral ceiling with furring strips.
- There is a photo up with AD in corner. It is from front page of "Architectural Digest". So why I post it here you ask? Becuse I did calculate that arch and I did frame that arch. And if you will need I will give you references for that photo. I installed that base that is visible in bottom of picture too. And there is a dose of arches in that house and I did calculate, cut plywood for it, and installed all of them.
I'm a heavy-duty framing carpenter that is extremely precise, hence I do trim work too. I am very strong in math. When I was an employee, I did math where it was needed at multimillion dollar houses. My field of expertise is leveling floors and walls with strips, do new stairs framing and roof framing where need than trim everything. --------- I do trim level cutting of windows and doors extension jambs (maple, oak, pine, mdf) to fit uneven and out of level walls. That is extension go for ex from 3" to 2 1/2" and back to 3 1/4". I'm capable of cutting it with my free hand at my table saw to trim the level of cutting. I do it all the time, check photos and ask for references. (This one is big for whatsoever reason in pro world. Yes, I do it all the time. No ugly filers behind casing, I rip extension jambs properly) ----------------
I do trim of stairs beside framing. I do the toughest trimming to like stairs with winders and arched stairs. A couple things are here to notice. Most stairs I would not touch for below 55$/hour and arched would not touch below 65$/hour. If you want me trim stairs for 50$/hour throw another trim at me for a few weeks. Trimming the stairs takes time and will cost you a few thousand minimum.
So, what is the level of trimming that I do? From 97. to 02. all that I did was trim high-end homes around Twin cities. Why do they always hire me to install base and crown? My molding coping skills are second to none. Feel free to hire another trim carpenter beside me, even dedicated only trim carpenter (I do frame to remember?) and compare his coped joints of base and crown to mine. I strongly encourage do so, hire another trim carpenter beside me. Me in one room another guy trim another room and compare. Download pictures from my photobucket page and enlarge them to check joints of crown. All photos are done before painting. Like employee in 97. I installed every piece of base at the house of owner of Target, fourth richest person in world. In 2002 I installed 10" base in all main rooms of the house of the CFO of a huge corporation, plus installed crown in his entry porch. The interior of that CFO house is widely published in architectural magazines and photos are all over internet. If you look at it you look at my trim work. So, if you want to check my trim work beside my portfolio, we can go to sites like PriceyPad.com and Arcihtecturaldigest.com.
I cope maple and oak crown molding with a jig saw. If your maple or oak crown will not be coped joint will fall apart in one year. They will come with tons of excuses why they do not cope joints. They cannot, it is all. You read that well if you do not believe go to youtube and check how they cope it. All videos are coping MDF and pine crown. They cannot cope with jig saw than they use grinders, hence they cope only soft wood. Obviously, you cannot grind the cope of hard wood. The only reason they do not use Jig saw is because they can't, they do not have hand capable to cope it. Plus, for some reason they are not capable of figuring compound cut (???) then they cut the crown upside down. If they do not have much brain to figure out compound cut, I do not know what they do in construction. Plus, I do not use wood putty to hide bad joints from you. You do it or your painter but you will see the quality of my work not my painting skills. Putty will fall out in a few years. If someone shows up and cope crown with a grinder you should ask him what his mental issue is. If someone say you, he will meet maple, oak crown it is only because he cannot cope with jig saw. You cannot use a grinder or hand saw to cope 6" maple crown.
I do cathedral ceiling crown with proper transition piece. If you are contractor and you want me do only that I look for 55$/hour for paint grade and more for stain grade wood. I'm not bending your crown I do figure out proper bevel and miter.
Roof framing. In my employee days had contact with some international architects who wasn't capable of understanding where is hip line at cathedral ceiling. And almost no one else can understand. That is you will hire a company with 50 employee and nation awards and no one in that company will be capable to frame cathedral ceiling with straight hips. I know do it because I'm math educated.
-I do know frame roofs with roof trusses and CATHEDRAL CEILING WITH HIPS WITH ROOF TRUSSES (reference eligible that my cathedral ceiling with hips is hold for months without sheetrock so other carpenters can see how should be done). I need not cut anything I know exactly set points of hip. If trusses come with geometry mistake it is not problem I just add furring strips to make proper hip or ridge in cathedral ceiling. Do know frame any sort of roof with 2X too. Any sort of stairs too. References eligible. My position in roof framing projects would be frame hips, cathedral ceilings, connect dormer roof to existing roof, bay window roof, irregular hips and such. You can find a lot guys to do bulk of physical part of roof framing at CL.
If you plan hire me CALL ME BEFORE YOU START DO ANYTHING if you can. Proper measurements and math before any job is a huge part of project. Before buying kitchen, before any work. Sheetrock can be removed, it is even better, nothing else should be done before talking. Above 3 pros call me always BEFORE ANY WORK IS DONE. Virtually 1/2 hour of talk can save you thousands of dollars.
- I do framing, trim (doors, kitchens etc ... ). STAIRS TRIM and frame (check photos ask for references)
- Excellent kitchens installation. Installed over 50 kitchens. I can help in design. We go to Menards or Home Depot, we design it there and than I install it. Work excellent, references eligible
- Build any imaginable shape, curved in two or three dimensions too, of walls, ceilings, stairs, roofs... . Check photos ask for references.
- I cope all moldings at inside corners, even for biggest stain grade crown molding, so it don't fall apart with weather change. I cope it with jig saw not angle grinder (huge dust) or Dremel / RotoZip (huge noise). I cut crown molding with compound cut not with special jig that take 3 rooms of yours house or project. Please if you plan do cathedral ceiling crown you have to call me to discuss it before you buy crown. I do not like deal with crown that go below horizontal plane in profile. It is seldom and special case of profile from manufacturers that do not know what they do.
-I scribe board that go to wall (like end kitchen filler), do not just cut a size and fill hole between wall and board with silicon. I don't use wood putty or silicon to cover quality of joints in trim that I make, so you can see my work and because putty or silicon will fall out of joint in 1 year.
- I DO trim of stairs, gooseneck in handrails and trimming of enclosed stairs with hardwood treads. Check photos. I have 3 dozens of references for stairs trim.
