Have you ever dreamed of owning a wild mustang but didn’t want to take on the gentling process yourself? Here’s your chance!
Meet Goose (neck tag #9116) — your once in a lifetime Mustang! Goose is a 5-year-old handsome bay gelding standing at 13.3hh—the perfect size for a shorter adult or confident youth rider. He was gathered from the West Douglas Creek HA in Colorado on 7/27/2021 and spent three years in a holding facility before I purchased him in November. From day one, Goose showed me what a special pony he is.. I could pet him on the very first day and by the third day he was wearing a halter. Since then, I’ve put in the gentling work, and he is now ready for his forever person to put on more miles. I am simply too big for him, otherwise I’d happily finish him under saddle myself before rehoming. (He was purchased sale-eligible, so I already have his title in hand — no BLM approval needed.)
I believe a horse’s personality is just as important as their training, so here’s my best attempt at describing how great Goose is. He’s basically the golden retriever of horses… friendly, goofy, and always by your side. Around the barn, he’s the class clown and the first to photobomb your selfies. Walk away and he’s your shadow. Pause to check your phone and he’ll be right there, trying to see what’s so interesting. Bath time with Goose is its own comedy show… splashing in puddles, sipping from the hose, and then happily standing for the leaf blower with the biggest horsey smile you’ve ever seen. He loves his cuddles, especially having his ears rubbed, and will melt right into you for scratches. Simply put, he’s impossible not to love.
Training & Skills:
• Excellent ground manners
• Light in the face and lunges well
• Self-loads/unloads, hauls quietly
• Stands politely for tacking, baths, fly spray, vet, and farrier
• Comfortable in blankets, fly gear, and easy to catch
• Desensitized to tarps, bags, bridges, ropes, pool noodles, and cones
• Very lightly started under saddle (rope halter, W/T/C in round pen, 4 rides total)
• On his 4th ride, a youth rider took him W/T/C with no issues
• Quiet, kind, curious, and honest — no buck, rear, or bad behavior
• Best suited for a handy youth (working with a trainer) or an experienced rider to continue his education
• With his brain and temperament, he’d make an outstanding 4H or youth training project under supervision
Recent care includes 6-way vaccine and teeth floated on 5/14, dewormed on 7/1, and trimmed on 8/5. Strong barefoot mustang hooves. Sound, no known health issues, and requires no maintenance.
I purchased Goose to fulfill my dream of gentling a wild mustang, so rehoming him is truly no fault of his own. Good ponies with personalities like his don’t come around often and many have told me I’m crazy to let him go. Don’t miss this special opportunity to make him yours! Pre-purchase exams are welcome at the buyer’s expense. He is located in Anoka, MN—please PM for videos or more information.
