The program for protecting the Marine Turtles is run since 1996 together with the Michoacan University and the local people of Colola Beach. This year again the international volunteers will work with the people of Colola village to protect the sea turtles. There are two kinds of turtles that arrive on the beach, the Negra (Black Turtle) and the Golfina (Olive Riddle Turtle). The people involved in the project help by collecting eggs, burying them in the turtle camp, taking care of the baby turtles and doing some work collecting statistical information. In this frame, a group of international volunteers will be involved in the project as members of the staff, which means that the volunteers will be very involved in the project and the work. The goal of this project is to protect the turtles and to help run the conservation activities of the turtle protection program, promoting international cooperation and solidarity.
The main work consists in collecting turtle eggs, burying them again in a secure place, and transporting the baby turtles safely to the sea. This will be carried out at night since the turtles do not get out of the ocean during the day (because of their natural predators, it is safer for the turtles go out of the ocean in the dark). Together with the people from Colola Village, the volunteers will seek for the turtles and take care of the eggs and the baby turtles. Local people, who are very friendly, work with the group and explain them what to do. Very motivated volunteers who really want to get involved in the work for protection of the turtles are needed for this project. There are also some extra activities to be done with the local people in order to help improve the town such as setting names to the streets of the town or helping to arrange a multi-use playground for the children, and maybe some cleaning work, but this depends on the volunteers' initiative. The people of the town are very open to participate in other activities that the group of volunteers can propose, so any ideas will be welcome. Language: The official language of the project is English. Some Spanish would be appreciated. Location: Colola is a small town located on the Michoacan State coast, between Maruata and La Placita towns. It's a remote place that offers an excellent opportunity to be close to nature, on a virgin beach, with no tourism around. The closest city is Tecoman at 200 kilometers, but other villages such as La Placita that are closer (45 minutes by bus) can offer Internet connection.

TET Festival is Vietnamese traditional New Year Holiday (following Lunar Calendar) which usually falls into mid January – mid February. This is the time for family reunion and visits to friends and relatives. Like the Christmas and New Year in western countries, people here prepare a lot for this holiday, from renovating their houses, making cakes and a lot of food and drinks. However, in the orphanages, children do not have enough to prepare for their holiday. Most of them stay in the orphanage or centers over the Tet, only some of them go back to their home villages. Thus, there is need to prepare something for those children, so they still have good time and enjoy such big holidays.
In Ho Chi Minh City area, an international workcamp will be set up to prepare Tet holidays in Ky Quang Orphanage and Chua La Orphanage. Volunteers will help renovating the houses, cleaning the site and making Chung Cake (traditional cake for children in Tet).

Lead a group of HandsOn Twin Cities volunteers as they read with elementary students from Phalen Lake Elementary School. The personal attention from volunteers will help the students gain practice and confidence in their reading abilities.
A Project Coordinator is needed to help recruit, coordinate, communicate with and lead volunteers. He or she will act as a liaison between volunteers, HandsOn Twin Cities and Hmong American Partnership.
You will need to commit to leading until the end of April.

Due to the economy, there are more and more dogs in need. Dogs are being abandoned in foreclosed homes, and are just being let outside to fend for themselves.
To save more dogs, we need more foster homes.
Every size, type and breed of dog are available. Even if you don't see the right foster dog for you, please complete an application, so you can be pre-approved to help next week. MARS pulls almost all of the dogs from one of the local impounds, so there are new dogs every week. We also have dogs arriving from other facilities, or dogs that need to move to new foster homes.

Brief history of the project: Volunteers are needed in Nyahera Health Centre, located in the small town Nyahera, not far from Kisumu city in Nyanza Province.
Volunteer work: Volunteers' major duties include:
• Attending to patients.
• Responsible for day-to-day coordination with the hospital staff and patients to ensure performance of the hospital operation.
• Counseling of the patients.
Note: All these duties will be directed by the hospital senior management.
All volunteers are also required to bring a letter of approval from the Ministry of Health or a University in their country.
The volunteers will be working from Monday to Saturday. The number of hours will be decided by the hospital management.
Special requirements: Doctors, nurses, paramedics, pre-med students and medical students are required for this project. However, we have an open policy and applicants with other ideas to share are also welcome to apply and will be considered.
Volunteers need to contribute/initiate ideas and by that would be promoting the growth of the Hospital. This is an opportunity for the volunteers to work at a community/grassroot level in capacity building and training in self-sustainability.

Small Dog Rescue (SDR) is an all-volunteer group committed to the rescue, rehabilitation, and placement of dogs 20 pounds and under. Dogs are fostered in volunteers' homes so they can be loved like a family member until they are placed in a suitable adoptive home, determined by a review of a written application, a criminal background check, several reference consultations, and a home visit. SDR is a no-kill rescue, resorting to euthanasia only when a dog is either suffering from an untreatable medical condition or considered dangerous and not responding to rehabilitative training efforts. Carz 4 Kids 3nd Annual Backpacks for Homeless Youth Project
Statistics show that 5000 youth die on the streets each year.
Could he or she be our next president or not?
This project will help homeless youth survive on the streets until they can get the necessary resources for transition to a more stable lifestyle.
Last year we collected 50 filled backpacks and delivered them to The Fallout
(Homeless Youth Organization) Each backpack contains, hat, gloves, scarf,
Radio, batteries, snack, whole foods, and refreshments for a week.
Our goal for this year is $5000.00 and (or) 150 backpacks filled with supplies for distribution to local organizations. Along with that we are hoping to have groups make shelters for Kid’s to utilize during those cold night.
From November 1st thru December 31, 2009 we will be collecting coins, backpacks and the
Supplies needed for homeless youth to cope with their environment.

WE ARE LOOKING FOR BOOK GROUP, WOMENS GROUPS, SCHOOLS TO get connected to grandmothers in Kenya Africa who are raising grandchildren and orphans because the childrens parents have been effected by AIDS.
The National Museums of Kenya is a unique institution that manages three World Heritage Sites, twenty-two Museums and over a hundred Sites and Monuments across Kenya. The East Africa Natural History Society established the museum in 1910 with an aim of conducting scientific research in East Africa. The National Museums of Kenya is now a state corporation, whose mission is to collect, document, preserve, study and present the past and present cultural and natural heritage; and to enhance knowledge, appreciation and respect, management and use of these resources for the benefit of Kenya and the world. The museum has become a leading center of excellence, housing world-class museum collections and exhibits. One of its main objectives is to create public awareness about the importance of conservation, and in particular of preserving Kenya's unique natural and cultural diversity. This is achieved through public programmes such as permanent, temporary and travelling exhibitions, educational programmes for the youth, and the production of Museum publications. The National Museums of Kenya headquarters is located in Nairobi. The volunteer project will collaborate with Mombasa and Lamu National Museums.

Volunteers are needed to help prepare for Goodwill/Easter Seals' annual Bridal Showcase, a six-hour event held in February which redirects hundreds of nearly new weeding gowns, bridesmaids' dresses and other wedding items to those who have use for them, while raising funds to support Goodwill/Easter Seals' crucial work to empower those facing barriers to education, employment, independence and other important life achievements.
Volunteers will be asked to sort Bridal, Bridesmaid, Mother-of-the-Bride, Prom and Flower Girl gowns in to 'acceptable' and 'unacceptable' categories, for resale as formalwear and Halloween items respectively. Guaymas city has been suffering in the last years unusual weather phenomena. This year the hurricane Jimena has lashed the city of Guaymas leaving an important level of rain. 2009 is the year when it rained the most (in the last 50 years) and this caused an important damage to the population of Guaymas and to the city. The hurricane affected people of all backgrounds, leaving a lot of people in the middle of nowhere since they lost everything they had. Everything was affected, public buildings, leisure areas, houses, schools, there was no place that was not affected. This international volunteer project is organized in order to help in the reconstruction of the city of Guaymas with the support of motivated volunteers. There are many things to be done since there were several areas seriously affected. We need help to clean beaches, to rebuild sportive spaces, to clean up parks and community spaces, to fix roads, to help in rural communities by giving health workshops. After the hurricane, the children affected don’t have a place to continue their studies, they lost everything they had for their education: material, furniture, the roof collapsed and the walls were damaged because of the water and humidity. For that reason, at this first stage, the goal of the project is renovating and reconstructing two schools damaged by the Jimena Hurricane, so the children affected can return to their educative activities as soon as possible and in a clean and healthy environment, appropriate for their development and with the support of the international volunteers. This project will benefit 25 families for the first school and 180 families for the second school. Volunteers will help with the reconstruction of the two schools affected. They will help with reconstruction activities such as painting walls, reforestation, and cleaning the schools. They will contribute to renovate these structures through scratching and painting walls, and will also do some artistic work such as painting murals on the walls of the schools with the help of local volunteers with landscapes and thematic appropriate for the children. The volunteers will also help planting trees and reforesting the affected area, making and putting signals and signs. Age range: 18 and over Location: Morelia is a beautiful historic city, and capital of the state of Michoacán. Founded almost 500 years ago, the city has a wonderful central zone with buildings dating back to the time of the Spanish conquest as well as all the more modern attributes (shops, bars, cafés, etc). The city's population is over 1 million and the climate is moderately warm, with daytime temperatures ranging from 20-35º C. Morelia is well connected to a variety of great places to visit, such as Pátzcuaro, and the ancient Purépecha capital Tzintzunzan.
Qualified participants may receive confidential study related medical care, including physical exam, lab tests, and study medication, at no cost. Additional compensation for travel and other expenses may also be provided.

Position Description: The lack of affordable transportation options features as a recurring if often overlooked barrier to employment and housing in the Twin Cities, and the First Mondays project at the Sibley Bike Depot seeks to address this oversight, by partnering with area non-profits to help make well-tended bicycles available to those most in need of them.
Volunteers are needed to assist with bicycle repair. Those interested will be asked to help with a range of common maintenance tasks, from fixing flats and truing wheels to adjusting brakes and drivetrains, so experience with bicycle repair will be essential to making the project a success. A volunteer Project Coordinator familiar with all aspects of bicycle repair is needed to oversee a revolving team of experienced volunteer mechanics through a monthly bike fix-up night.
The Project Coordinator will be the liaison between the Sibley Bike Depot, HandsOn Twin Cities and participating volunteers. He or she will communicate with those interested in the project, confirm project details with SBD staff and provide overall leadership for each project. Training will be provided, and a representative from SBD will be onsite to assist throughout the project.

Yercaud is a beautiful hill station in the state of Tamil Nadu with a fantastic landscape - surrounded by coffee and tea plantations. The volunteer project is organized in cooperation with local NGOs to support local children, old aged people, and the local community. Starting from this year, the international volunteers will be also working with the local tribal community in the field of education, renovation, environmental protection, spreading health and hygiene awareness among the tribal villages. The SOS Children's Village is situated in the centre of Viet Tri City, the capital of Phu Tho Province. There are now about 168 orphans living in 15 family houses under the care of the village mothers and staff.
The orphans come from 5 different provinces in the north of Vietnam. Volunteers will spend time with the children and help improving their English, organizing games and other activities for them. They will also help redecorating the houses and classrooms, planting vegetable, cleaning the area. International group of volunteers will also join the families to get closer to the children’s life and try to build up wider horizon for the children and encourage them to learn better for brighter future.
Project 8 is a new initiative that connects the needs of the youth with the resources that already exist within our community. The most amazing realization is that we as a community (without spending a dollar) can virtually supply each youth with what he or she needs to survive and be resilient. How can we explain homelessness when there are millions of empty bedrooms each night? I believe each person has some sort of gift they can give that can better someone else's life. That's not unreasonable at all.
Here are some examples of ways you can volunteer your time:

Helping drive someone in your area to school or work that otherwise can't get there
Help teach a sport
offer to babysit for free

Offering someone a job to rake your leaves, shovel your driveway or mow your lawn (as opposed to a service)

Give clothing for youth
Giving used electronics
Offer dog walking jobs
donate old baby items
Talent:
Teaching someone how to bake or fish or knit or sew
Offer legal advice for youth
Help someone write a resume
Give job interview tips
Help with getting someone involved with acting
Offer voice lessons
Offer banking training (a lot of youth have no idea how a bank works)
Help someone fill out a college application
Explain loans
Virtually the list is endless... We need your services.
So how does it work?
A youth will come into our center, located in Minneapolis and explain what he/she needs. We'll have a database of all the times, talents and treasures that we have logged and can set them up with the right person. If the person we contact can't provide for some reason or another, not a big deal. The youth will get what he/she needs and then we will work with them to make sure they stay connected with us. They will be part of a youth leadership institute and we'll make sure they are taking the right steps to become resilient.
We need individuals and small businesses that can donate anything at all.

When we finish each volunteer project, we gather as a group at a local bar or restaurant for food, drinks and the opportunity to continue to get to know each other. This helps to create a really fun social outlet as part of your volunteer experience.

Volunteer drivers must be at least 18-years-old, have a valid driver's license, reliable vehicle with auto insurance and be able to carry bag of meals to their car. Those over 55 may qualify for personal injury insurance while driving and mileage paid up to $15 per month. In addition to drivers, Meals on Wheels program seeks site greeters to ensure that meals are delivered (Mon – Fri from 10:30 – 11:30 am).
