Trying to do business in St. Paul is starting to affect my normal life. There are too many regulations as to what you can or can't do. I used to think I owned my property, but during the latest building renovation here I have found St. Paul and all it's entities have so many rules that I believe I am done. I have invested over 5 million dollars of PRIVATE financing in the last 20+ years and maintain good properties. I believe St. Paul has reached the point that we small business can no longer afford or keep up with the regulations. This will only leave the large corporate developers left. All those in St. Paul who are fond of the quaint idea of small business scraping out a niche in this city are living a dream.

The people showing up to meetings are the ones who want more regulation. The people taking board positions have agendas. This is leading down a road where it is already shocking as to how little say you have to own property in St. Paul. This city is going to choke on it's own regulations and it is going to become too difficult and too expensive for small business.
They say the world is run by those who show up. The people showing up are ruining things for those of us who work hard, invest and take risk to better our lives and the future of our families. There are people showing up at these meetings that don't know what it's like to build on dreams with hard work and dedication. They just have wishes, and those wishes, no matter how expensive or silly are becoming reality as these people are getting on boards and committees.
To anyone who thinks I'm blowing smoke, attend a local meeting (District council, Any watershed district, Park and Rec, etc.) and try to estimate if the folks there really represent the overall views of the public or is it stacked one way. I've been on boards and councils and am currently serving and it's very frustrating. Everyone is very busy, I know, but if you don't take the time to hold on to your views and express them, you will have lost your chance and "sour grapes" doesn't cut it when your life has yet another regulation, fee, permit, tax, rule or otherwise.

Here's a list of the Hennepin County Commissioners...
Pass this along to everyone you know in Hennepin County or works or travels thru Hennepin County so they are aware of the seriousness of the Board voting to close a Jail Facility in Plymouth near Parkers Lake.

Call each of these Commissioners and ask them to reconsider the plan to close Work Release which would cause a first for the ACF: Layoffs.
Even if you do not live in Hennepin County you can still call or email them as a concerned and dedicated Employee (civilian staff, Officer, Supervisor) or concerned resident.
When you do write to them feel free to let them know you�re a Hennepin County employee for total transparency. Don�t forget: do this on your own time and not on the clock.
Or if you are a resident, tell them where you live and why its a stupid idea to close down a jail to save money.
We get taxed enough, we shouldn't have our Public Safety in jeapordy because of wasteful spending on their part.
Next year is an election year for some of these Board Members...don't forget that and perhaps remind them of that too.

The next meeting to try to close KARE rescue is on the 3rd of Nov. They still will not give out a time for this meeting as they want to keep it under the table. Guessing it is at either 9:00AM or 7:00PM . KARE has saved and found Great adopters for over 700 dogs in the last 3yrs. Dogs that would have been euthanized. Pics and letters from adopters are recieved at KARE daily w/ thank you's for finding us this wonderful friend(dog). KARE will no longer be able to provide this service to these dogs or adopters if MilleLacs county has their way. KARE is S.E. of Milaca surrounded by hay and corn field. They take in all breed or type of dog , get them FULLY vetted ,work w/any issues they may have and match them to Wonderfull Families where they have Lifelong homes. Many of these dogs are rescued from MilleLacs County impound where if not claimed w/in 5 days they r euthenized(at taxpayer expense $200ea.) KARE has always taken in these dogs at -0- cost to the county and surrounding communities. This county has 1 AC officer at $1700p/mth who recieves approx 2-3 calls p/wk many of these dogs end up w/KARE. The county is now hiring 3 new AC officers to help w/ these 8-10 calls p/mnth at tax payer expense. Y they insist on closing KARE rather than making a new ordinance allowing KARE to continue its mission is ridiculous. They believe recue is not a needed thing in their area. Ive already stated the # of dogs helped thru KARE + many more they were unable to assist due to being what they deemed as full, 15-30 dogs. They feel this is as many as they can give the care and attention required to get them ready for adoption. KARE needs a show of support at this meeting to be able to keep helping these animals. KARE is a registered 501 3C nonprofit organization. They can be found at petfinder.com , they are the only recue in Milaca MN. All MilleLacs county board member names can be found on the MilleLacs county homepage. #'s are in the book. HELP them save these Wonderful Dogs! Please do what you can!!! The buy back will take place from 10:00 am to 10:00 pm at Gospel Temple Church of God in Christ located at 247 Grotto St N St. Paul, MN 55104 and also at Shiloh Temple International Ministries located at 1201 W Broadway Ave in Minneapolis, MN 55411. Anyone turning in a firearm will receive gift cards in the amount of $100.00 for automatic guns and $50.00 for revolvers while supplies last. No questions asked. They are asking for you to participate in a survey and sit in on a short educational video on violence. Comments may be heard from supporters and dignitaries such as Hennepin County Attorney Mike Freeman, Councilman Don Samuels, and U.S. Congressman Keith Ellison, State Representatives Jeff Hayden And Bobbi Joe Champion as well as a host of other organizations. A press conference will follow at 10:15 pm.

Ms. Brandy King, the mother of 17 year old Bryant Garroutte who was accidently shot two years ago in northeast Minneapolis said, �I want no one to experience this level of pain and loss.� during her attendance at the meeting held at NorthPoint Health and Wellness Center in north Minneapolis. Mrs. King is a member of Parents of Murdered Children and sits on the committee to assist with the Gun Buy Back Project II. She hopes to save another family from the nightmare of losing a loved one by the use of a street gun.

Welcome to the Breast Cancer Cultural Significance Project! We are three Students from University of MN- Duluth compiling a project based on participation response. Are you a breast cancer survivor or patient, or have been deeply impacted by the epidemic? Then we'd very much like to hear your stories. Your sharing participation can be as simple as just a quick email of support or a single jpeg image you associate with breast cancer to participating more elaborately such as developing a couple minute Youtube video or providing a written account of your stories. Just so we hear from you.

Collectively, we're compiling stories about the cultural significance of Breast Cancer by trying to share perspectives on the following questions:

Created in 1947, the Voice of Democracy (VOD) scholarship program is an audio-essay contest for high school students in grades 9-12 that annually provides more than $3 million in scholarships. The first-place winner, who competes with all the first-place VFW Department winners, receives a $30,000 scholarship that is paid directly to the recipient�s American university, college or vocational/technical school.

Besides competing for the top scholarship prize, as well as other national scholarships ranging from $1,000 to $16,000, each Department's first-place winner receives an all-expense-paid trip to Washington, D.C., March 6-10, 2010, sponsored by Target.

The National Association of Secondary School Principals has placed this program on the NASSP National Advisory List of Contests and Activities for 2009-2010. The Voice of Democracy program is designed to foster patriotism by allowing students the opportunity to voice their opinion in a three to five minute essay based on an annual theme

Patriot's Pen, a youth-essay writing contest is a nationwide competition that gives students in grades 6,7 and 8 the opportunity to write essays expressing their views on democracy. Annually, more than 115,000 students participate in the contest.
Contestants write a 300-400 word essay based on an annual patriotic theme. The first-place winner receives a $10,000 savings bond and an all-expense-paid trip to Washington D.C. The top national winners each receive a savings bond anywhere from $1,000 to $10,000.
