Those on the left always make so much hay over the Obama tax cut. but was it really a tax cut?
In order for taxrs to be cut, the tax rate needs to be changed. What that means is that the amount of taxes OWED is reduced. That is what the Bush tax cuts were. They reduced the actual tax burden.
The Obama tax cut was not a cut at all. All that it did was give a reduction in the amount that the federal government required your employer to withhold from your check for your expected tax debt. This reduction amounted to little more than an Extra Value Meal with a large drink. The problem is going to come when middle and lower income individuals file their taxes this year. They will NOT see a reduction in the actual taxes owed. But what they WILL see is a reduction in the amount of taxes that they have prepaid into the Treasury. This means that they are going to see a smaller refund than they have grown accustomed to receiving.
So, what really happened is that the government is not taking less from you in the end.
They are just taking a little less each week, and giving you a smaller overpayment refund.
Not a cut at all.
