Call for Performance Proposals for the 2010 Art Shanty Projects:
An open invitation to create programming during the Seventh Annual Art Shanty Projects:
Art Shanty Projects is a five-week exhibition of performance, architecture, science, art, video, literature, survivalism and karaoke, ASP is part sculpture park, part artist residency and part social experiment, inspired by traditional ice fishing houses that dot the state’s lakes in winter. www.artshantyprojects.org
The Art Shanty Projects and mnartists.org are seeking visual artists, musicians, composers, media artists, puppeteers, architects, poets, scientists, dancer/choreographers, writers, fisher-people, out-doors people, naturalists, vocalists, spoken word artists, craftspeople, storytellers, actors, playwrights, etc. interested in producing programs on frozen Medicine Lake in Plymouth, MN from January 16 through February 14, 2010.
Submissions due by: Friday, November 6, 2009
Notification to artists by: November 16th
Stipends: Stipends of $50 - $200 are available for projects. The amount allocated will be based on the scope of project and frequency of the program. There is also the opportunity to participate with no stipend, these artists are still required to apply.
Times: Programing should occur on Saturdays and Sundays (1/16/10-2/14/10) between 10am-5pm
Review process: Submissions will be reviewed and selected by a three person jury representing the Art Shanty Projects and mnartists.org. Successful proposals will consider the unique environment of the Shanty Projects as well as Medicine Lake, engaging audiences and the overall feasibility of their project.
What to submit: One page maximum description of your idea. The proposal should detail the production of the project, how it engages participants, the preferred site, the time frame of the project, any technical requirements and the feasibility of the project. Please be specific as possible, we encourage you submit work samples or visual aids if appropriate. Your submission should also include your top 3 choices for days and times for your program.
We encourage performances to occur outdoors as to be most accessible to as many participants possible. If your idea requires a more intimate indoor space there will be shanties available to host performances, the 2010 Shanty Artists will be announced by October 19, 2009. Please visit the ASP website for the list of this year's Shanty Projects and possible indoor performance/programming venues. Let us know if you have made arrangements with a shanty or if you need assistance with a contact.
We will notify all applicants by November 16th, the actual calendar will be announced in early December. Scheduling priority will be given to stipend winners.
