I'll keep this short.
We are a one-child family in Minneapolis. We are both college-educated, and in the liberal-progressive mode with the husband veering more toward Burkean conservatism (look this up - it's not what you think).

We are planning to move up north, to the North Shore area. We would like to live in a homestead-like environment. Meaning fairly simply and primitively, with some solar/wind for electricity (off-grid). We would like to build our own shelter (log structure, cordwood, straw bale, etc. all possible).

It just occurred to us that working together with another like-minded family with similar values would make it a LOT more viable. Yes, we're talking communal living : purchasing land together (perhaps put into a trust), and cooperating. Sharing tools, expertise, mutual support.

If you are at all interested in a radical lifestyle change, and moving up to the great north woods and living the off-grid dream, while realizing it would be a lot of hard work, toil, sweat and tears (as well as laughs and joys), let me know.
If you enjoy Wendell Berry, Thoreau, Harlan Hubbard, so much the better.
