Craft-a-Thon Strikes Back! Glue guns, Rubbish, Project Runway�s Christopher Straub and a Moog Synthesizer Come Together During the No-Coast Craft-o-Rama

Hey, Crafter! We want YOU for the Second Annual No Coast Craft-a-Thon Upcycle Challenge!

What is it?
No Coast Craft-a-Thon is a competitive event that pits four teams of crafters against each other in an �upcycling� battle royale. This year, we�re focusing the challenge on Clothing and accessories. Take a pile of junk and turn it into fashion!

Each team will receive a set of broken-in materials (Snorks bed sheets? A thousand toilet paper tubes? Vintage acrylic yarns from Aunt Madge's stash? Who knows what wonders await!) with which to create a fantastic upcycled look. Each team will receive a similar set of materials and supplies to work with, although each material set will be somewhat unique due to the nature of thrifted/used materials. The material sets� contents will remain a mystery until the teams step onstage. Once the teams tear into their material sets, the games begin. Show off your craft chops!

After 4 hours of hard-core competitive craft action, each team will present their upcycled look to the panel of judges, including Project Runway�s Christopher Straub (and legions of adoring fans).

What�s at stake?
Glory�sweet, sweet glory. The winning team will have the opportunity to sell their winning look at the fabulous Minneapolis boutique I Like You, and will be featured on the No Coast website. Plus, there will be more bedazzled trophies than you can shake a crochet hook at!

When is it?
No Coast Craft-a-Thon will take begin at 10:00 am on December 5, 2009, during No Coast Craft-o-Rama. The fashion show and judging will be at 2:00 pm.

Where is it?
No Coast Craft-a-Thon will take place smack dab in the middle of the Midtown Global Market on the plaza stage.

Everyone is eligible to enter! Put together an all-star team of four; each team will need to provide their own sewing machine (if desired) and scissors�we�ll take care of the rest!

ok so i found a love in decoupaging - collaging and have been told i am pretty good at it. i have done photo collages a bed side table a monogram letter "r" and MULTIPLE pages of just regular collages because i get bored...

If you've never danced salsa before, I'd be happy to teach you the basic steps, but I'd hire a professional salsa dancer to get us to the next level.

The Mill District Arts Gallery is one year old on November 8th and in honor of our first anniversary we have two wonderful exhibits during the month of November!

The Wise Bears is a delightful exhibit of original paintings by local artist Michelle Eggan in the Art Closet. Her whimsical paintings of the Wise Bear family will enchant and delight you and just in time for the holidays. An artist reception will be held Saturday, November 7th from 4 to 8. Children of all ages are welcome.

An exhibition of stunning photos by local photographer Mark Teskey runs November 5 through November 28 in the Go Down Gallery. An opening night reception will be held with the artist on Friday, November 6th from 4 to 8.

Both exhibitions are open during regular gallery hours, Wednesday 12 to 3 and Thursday through Saturday, 12 to 6 at the Mill District Arts Gallery, 1023 Washington Ave South (next to Open Book). Bring quarters for the meters. Hope to see you there to help us celebrate.

The theme of the Fall 2009 Gallery 96 Art Exhibition is �From A Child�s Point of View.� This is a juried show with eight $50 awards. The exhibition will be held at the Shoreview Ramsey County Library, 4570 N. Victoria St in Shoreview beginning with a reception on Friday, November 6, from 6 - 8 p.m. Refreshments will be served. The exhibit closes on Friday, December 4. An Exhibition Tour will be held Saturday, December 5, 11 a.m. at the Library. Admission is free.

Any guitarmakers out there without a shop but have the space for one, or do you have a desire to learn the art and craft of lutherie? If so, I have a proposal for you. I will provide the tools if you provide the space. I am not looking to start up a business here, but merely be able to practice the craft that I went broke going to school for. It's been over a year since I graduated from the guitar repair and construction program at Southeast Tech in Red Wing and I need to start building guitars. I have most of the necessary tools, and am willing to purchase more as time progresses, but can't really afford to rent a full blown shop space at the moment. I've had too many people tell me that I need to follow my dreams and build some guitars, but haven't yet been able to figure out a way to do this, so I'm turning it over to craigslist and we'll see what happens. If you have some experience in the craft and would like somebody to work with and build a shop with that would be great, but I would also love to work with somebody who has no experience but wants to learn. If you share a little space, I will gladly share any knowledge I have even though it may not be much. I did graduate in the top of my class and received a diploma in guitar repair and a certificate in guitar construction and I have a desire to learn more. If this sounds like something that would interest you, send me an email and we can talk more. I currently live in Anoka, but am open to anywhere reasonably close. Looking for art studio partner to share rent ($175/month) (Hastings)

Hi,
I found a great space in Hastings where I would like to set up a small pottery studio. It's a little over 300 square feet, with 220 power for my Skutt electric kiln and plenty of space for 2 wheels, wedging table, storage racks, glaze materials, etc. Rent is $350/month which includes all utilities (that's right, free electric so we fire for free!) and I would like to find a partner to split that rent with me.

Building is an old movie theater, space is secure (only tenants have keys and there are security cameras), mailbox is included, ground floor space with easy access, other tenants are jewelry artist, hair stylist, masseuse, and a couple therapists. Landlord is supportive of an occasional open house or retail hours if we produced enough to warrant such an event.

I am a hobby potter with aspirations of getting more serious some day. Currently I am taking a class at the Norther Clay Center. I have worked as an apprentice at the Van Briggle Pottery in Colorado Springs and as an intern at Greenwich House Pottery in NYC. I have also studied formally at both Iowa State University and Pratt Institute where I earned my Bachelor and Master's of Architecture. So I am fairly confident working on my own, but also have much to learn. I am married and have a 1 year old son, so I don't anticipate spending a ton of time in this studio, but I would probably use it a couple nights a week and more on weekends.

I am willing to share the space with any artist who is willing to pay rent on time and respect the space. If you're a potter I will gladly share my wheel, kiln and other pottery making items, but you will probably want to have your own wheel so you can work when you want. My kiln is relatively small, so between two of us I think we will fire it regularly, and I generally work with cone 6 glazes so I will probably stick with that.

Art Shanty Projects is a five-week exhibition of performance, architecture, science, art, video, literature, survivalism and karaoke, ASP is part sculpture park, part artist residency and part social experiment, inspired by traditional ice fishing houses that dot the state�s lakes in winter. www.artshantyprojects.org

The Art Shanty Projects and mnartists.org are seeking visual artists, musicians, composers, media artists, puppeteers, architects, poets, scientists, dancer/choreographers, writers, fisher-people, out-doors people, naturalists, vocalists, spoken word artists, craftspeople, storytellers, actors, playwrights, etc. interested in producing programs on frozen Medicine Lake in Plymouth, MN from January 16 through February 14, 2010.

Submissions due by: Friday, November 6, 2009
Notification to artists by: November 16th

Stipends: Stipends of $50 - $200 are available for projects. The amount allocated will be based on the scope of project and frequency of the program. There is also the opportunity to participate with no stipend, these artists are still required to apply.

Times: Programing should occur on Saturdays and Sundays (1/16/10-2/14/10) between 10am-5pm

Review process: Submissions will be reviewed and selected by a three person jury representing the Art Shanty Projects and mnartists.org. Successful proposals will consider the unique environment of the Shanty Projects as well as Medicine Lake, engaging audiences and the overall feasibility of their project.

What to submit: One page maximum description of your idea. The proposal should detail the production of the project, how it engages participants, the preferred site, the time frame of the project, any technical requirements and the feasibility of the project. Please be specific as possible, we encourage you submit work samples or visual aids if appropriate. Your submission should also include your top 3 choices for days and times for your program.

We encourage performances to occur outdoors as to be most accessible to as many participants possible. If your idea requires a more intimate indoor space there will be shanties available to host performances, the 2010 Shanty Artists will be announced by October 19, 2009. Please visit the ASP website for the list of this year's Shanty Projects and possible indoor performance/programming venues. Let us know if you have made arrangements with a shanty or if you need assistance with a contact.

We will notify all applicants by November 16th, the actual calendar will be announced in early December. Scheduling priority will be given to stipend winners.
